This business started with a great new concept, fantastic product and a great deal of passion and enthusiasm. After four years in operation, business growth was sluggish and had never reached anyway near the potential. Staff members were performing very poorly, exploiting the business and taking advantage of the owner. Systems were almost non-existent, which resulted in significant time wasting and large inefficiencies. In an attempt to gain a ‘quick fix’ solution, exorbitant amounts were spent on marketing. Profitability was suffering and the owner’s frustration was risking the very survival of the business.
Initial stages of the strategic plan involved an analysis of cash flow and assessment of profitability. From these results, changes to staff practices and rostering were introduced and a new marketing strategy commenced. A shift in marketing approach from advertising-based to more strategic sales and networking approach has resulted in steady growth at a fraction of the previous spend.
The introduction of systems and the restructuring of staff and HR procedures has delivered major efficiency gains across the business. Now the business owner has begun to work in a more strategic management role rather than in reactive mode.
Whilst the growth which has resulted from the program, the future is looking even brighter. Recently an Australia-wide preferred supplier status from a major corporation has been achieved. Expansion planning is currently underway.
